kevlees Coach Newhall U15 Tigers
Sunday 7th March 2010. A sunny day with a cold breeze across the pitch. The pitch was firm after a ground frost and was suspect to being called off. The referee held play up for 30minutes to allow for thawing, which it did.
Tigers took immediate control and played the better football. Winshill were chasing shadows and our keeper was waiting for his first action when after 12minutes, Gaz Jones hit a fabulous cross shot into the top corner of the net for a 0-1 lead. Winshill still struggling to hold Tigers midfield domination were continually undone through powerful play and guile. 20minutes in and Olli Dutton made a dazzling run past four players into the box before slotting home number 2 into the bottom of the net.
Half time 0-2
Winshill came out and looking more positive played 5 in midfield. Tigers defence moved up to support their midfield and whilst Winshill became more threatening, midfield and defence held them off. Winshills probing made more daring attacks which were repelled, time after time. Tigers attackers moving into the midfield area to add cover. Tigers breaking away at times, threatened and nearly stole a third on the counter. Cam Jenkins, after good work on the wing, received a cross at the far post and headed onto the post. Other counter attacks resulted in Tigers hitting a cross along the line which attackers couldnt reach.
The lack of a third made Tigers nervous and after good attacking work from Winshill, a melee of players in the box resulted in a penalty to Winshill 10 minutes from time. Winshill scored from the spot and the remaining 8 minutes resulted in a reguard action by Tigers. The game had swung from Tigers to Winshill and hung in the balance. Winshills Manager urging them on, Tigers standing firm created a tense finish. When the whistle did eventually go, you could feel a huge sigh of releif.
This was a magnificent demonstration of control by Tigers. A learning curve. A 3rd win in 4 games which would suggest pedigree credentials in this league. Mid table has been obtained. These lads deserved great credit for their efforts and the Season hasn't ended yet.
Well done to all, a creditable win today over Winshill A.
Final score: Winshill A 1 v. 2 Tigers
