Dave Banton Club Official U9 Rams
We had beaten Barton at home when we played them before Christmas but I remember it being a very tough match with not much in it. Todays match was going to prove very similar with Barton going 1-0 up in the first 15 mins. This in my opinion was due to complacency on our side and we had the same old troubles like not being able to pass to our own players and getting pulled up for fowl throw in's which at this age we really should have ironed out. Add in to that the fact that Barton could only field 9 men and we really were making it very hard for ourselves. Things did pick up a little with Josh Dutton getting us back on an even keel by half time making the score 1-1 going in to the break.
We came out for the second half playing a game very similar to the first half but Barton had given it there all and only having 9 men, started to flag. We had a couple of chances which we should really have put away but these went by without scoring. Eventually another goal did come Newhalls way with once again Josh Dutton slotting it in the net making it 2-1 Newhall and that's how it ended.
Not a convincing performance by any means but on the positive side we got 3 very valuable league points and the wind is in our sails ready for next weeks away game at Heather.
Lets all take this game as a positive step in the right direction and I personally would like to see ALL the team go in to next weeks match like they want to win, with a smile on their faces and not giving the opposition any time on the ball.
MOM: Both Will Pickering and Chris Bond pick up the MOM with very solid performances.
